Week 4: GPAC Cross Country Runners of the Week
(Sioux City, Iowa) – The Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) and Hauff Mid-America Sports are proud to announce the following Cross Country Runners-of-the-Week for September 18-24, 2023. Hauff Mid-America Sports is the presenting sponsor of the 2023-2024 GPAC Players-of-the-Week and Players and Coaches-of-the-Year awards program.
Hauff Mid-America Sports/GPAC Cross Country Runners-of-the Week
Women – Jessica (Kampman) Walczak, Dordt University
Jessica (Kampman) Walczak of Dordt University is this week's GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Women's Cross Country Runner-of-the-Week. Walczak, a senior from Abbotsford, British Columbia, led the 7th-ranked Defenders to a ninth-place finish at the Roy Griak Invite last weekend in Saint Paul, Minn. Kampman-Walczak finished second overall in the 431-runner field with a personal-best 6K time of 22:15. Kampman-Walczak was the top NAIA runner and her second-place finish was the highest ever by a Dordt runner at the Griak Invite.
Men – Peter Shippy, Dordt University
Peter Shippy of Dordt University is the GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Men's Cross Country Runner-of-the-Week. Shippy, a senior from Sioux Center, Iowa, helped lead the 5th-ranked Defenders to its highest finish (3rd place) ever at the Griak Invite held last weekend in Saint Paul, Minn. Shippy finished fourth overall with an 8K time of 25:45 and was the top NAIA runner in the field of 487 runners. This was the best individual finish by a Dordt men's runner at the Griak Invite and was Shippy's second consecutive top 10 finish this season.
