Week 1: GPAC Cross Country Runners of the Week
(Sioux City, Iowa) – The Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) and Hauff Mid-America Sports are proud to announce the following Cross Country Runners-of-the-Week for August 28-Sept. 3, 2023. Hauff Mid-America Sports is the presenting sponsor of the 2023-2024 GPAC Players-of-the-Week and Players and Coaches-of-the-Year awards program.
Hauff Mid-America Sports/GPAC Cross Country Runners-of-the Week
Women – Kylahn Freiberg, Concordia University
Kylahn Freiberg of Concordia University is this week's GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Women's Cross Country Runner-of-the-Week. Freiberg, a senior from Nampa, Idaho, placed as the highest GPAC/NAIA runner at the Augustana Twilight held in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Freiberg placed 18th overall with a 5k time of 18:30.28. That time led Concordia to a 10th place team finish (out of 29 squads) and the top finish among GPAC/NAIA squads. She is a two-time national qualifier.
Men – Jonathan Mahoney, Midland University
Jonathan Mahoney of Midland University is the GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Men's Cross Country Runner-of-the-Week. Mahoney, a junior from Lakewood, Colorado, finished the four-mile Augustana Twilight race as the highest placing GPAC competitor in a field of 358 overall runners. Mahoney placed 36th while finishing in 20:23.87 in a field full of NCAA Division I, Division II competitors.
