Jamestown to Host the 2022 GPAC Cross Country Championship
(Sioux City, Iowa) - The 2022 GPAC Cross Country Championship, Powered by Two West, will be hosted by the University of Jamestown and will take place on Saturday, November 5 in Jamestown, North Dakota. The event will be held at the Parkhurst Recreation Area.
The women's 5K race will start at 10:45 a.m., with the men's 8K race beginning at 11:30 a.m.
Dordt's men and women were the 2021 GPAC Champions with last year's event taking place in Orange City, Iowa.
The Dordt women scored 54 points in winning the title. Hastings was second (77) and Morningside third (79). The Dordt men scored a perfect 15 points to win the league last fall. Doane was second (71) and Northwestern was third (85) in the men's race.
Shania Santos from Hastings College won the women's individual title with a 5K time of 18:45.03 in 2021, while Davis Tebben from Dordt University won the men's title with a time of 25:52.77 on the 8K course.
Coming into Saturday Dordt's women are ranked 8th in the NAIA, with Concordia ranked 24th. The Northwestern women are receiving votes. On the men's side Dordt is ranked 3rd in the NAIA. The Concordia men are receiving votes.
The GPAC women will have two automatic qualifiers to the NAIA Championship with 12 member schools. The second-place team must be ranked in the top 30 in the NAIA poll. Individually for the women the top six individuals, not on a qualifying team, finishing in the top 20 advance to Nationals. For the men only one team will be an automatic NAIA qualifier with 11 member schools. For the men, the top four individuals, not on a qualifying team, finishing in the top 15 advance to NAIA Nationals.
The NAIA National Cross Country Championship will be on November 18, 2022 in Tallahassee, Florida.
