Week 7: GPAC Women's Volleyball Players of the Week
(Sioux City, Iowa) – The Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) and Hauff Mid-America Sports are proud to announce the following Volleyball players-of-the-week for contests played October 2-8, 2023. Hauff Mid-America Sports is the presenting sponsor of the 2023-2024 GPAC Players-of-the-Week and Players and Coaches-of-the-Year awards program.
Hauff Mid-America Sports/GPAC Volleyball Players-of-the-Week
Attacker – Gabi Nordaker, Concordia University (Middle)
Concordia's Gabi Nordaker is this week's GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Volleyball Attacker-of-the-Week. Nordaker, a junior from Omaha, Nebraska, racked up 28 kills while hitting .400 for the week. She also added 14 blocks as No. 1 Concordia defeated No. 14 Jamestown and Dakota Wesleyan at home. Nordaker got the best of matchups in the middle with strong opponents. Nordaker leads the GPAC in hitting percentage at .395 (fifth best in the NAIA).
Setter – Bree Burtwistle, Concordia University
Bree Burtwistle of Concordia University is this week's GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Volleyball Setter-of-the-Week. Burtwistle, a senior from Stanton, Nebraska, averaged 12.29 assists per set last week as Concordia hit .277 in a four-set win over No. 14 Jamestown and .315 in a straight-sets win over Dakota Wesleyan. Burtwistle also collected 16 digs, six kills, three blocks and two aces for the week. She currently leads all GPAC players and ranks second nationally with an average of 11.68 assists per set.
Defender – Zavyr Metzger, Northwestern College (Middle)
Northwestern Middle Zavyr Metzger is this week's GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Volleyball Defender-of-the-Week. Metzger, a sophomore from Larchwood, Iowa, tied her career-high with 11 blocks in the sweep at Hastings, notching 3.67 blocks per set. In the two Red Raider sweeps on the weekend, she averaged 2.50 blocks per set with 15 blocks. She continues to lead the NAIA (and GPAC) in blocks per set (1.90) in the nation's best blocking team (per set) at 3.48 blocks per set.
