Week 2: GPAC Women's Volleyball Players of the Week
(Sioux City, Iowa) – The Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) and Hauff Mid-America Sports are proud to announce the following Volleyball players-of-the-week for contests played August 28- Sept. 3, 2023. Hauff Mid-America Sports is the presenting sponsor of the 2023-2024 GPAC Players-of-the-Week and Players and Coaches-of-the-Year awards program.
Hauff Mid-America Sports/GPAC Volleyball Players-of-the-Week
Attacker – Jazlin De Haan, Northwestern College (Outside)
Northwestern's Jazlin De Haan is this week's GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Volleyball Attacker-of-the-Week. De Haan, a junior, from Orange City, Iowa, helped the Red Raiders to a 5-0 record on the week and increased their set win streak to 27 straight sets. She notched double-digit kills in every match, except against No. 6 Park, putting down 70 kills with a .333 percentage. She averaged 4.67 kills/set and continues to lead the GPAC in that category (4.52), and is fifth in the NAIA.
Setter- Bree Burtwistle, Concordia University
Bree Burtwistle of Concordia is this week's GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Volleyball Setter-of-the-Week. Burtwistle, a senior from Stanton, Nebraska, piled up 205 assists (12.06 per set) as No. 2 Concordia went 5-0 on the week with wins over nationally ranked foes in No. 24 Hastings and No. 6 Park. Burtwistle also added 38 digs and 10 aces for the week. The Bulldogs hit .303 for the week and averaged 14.82 kills per set.
Defender – Zavyr Metzger, Northwestern College (Middle Blocker)
Northwestern middle blocker Zavyr Metzger is this week's GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Volleyball Defender-of-the-Week. Metzger, a sophomore from Larchwood, Iowa, tallied 29 blocks in the five Red Raider matches last week, averaging 1.93 per set on the week. She set a new career-high with 10 blocks in the 3-0 win over No. 6-ranked Park. Additionally, she continues to lead the GPAC in blocks per set at 1.96, which sits second in the NAIA.
