Broncos Win GPAC Women's Soccer Tournament
(Sioux City, Iowa) – The Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Postseason Women's Soccer Tournament is complete with the Hastings College Broncos taking home the championship with a 2-0 win over the University of Jamestown.
Both teams, the top seed in the tournament and regular-season champion Jamestown, and the third seed Hastings, came into the game receiving votes in the latest NAIA ratings.
On blustery evening in Jamestown, North Dakota, neither team was able to find the back of the net in the first half as they adjusted to the conditions. The teams each had four shots in the opening frame. It looked to be more of the same early in the second half, but Hastings started to get more shots on goal, finishing with 11 in the second half and eventually scored. Naomi Pedroza scored in the 73rd minute for the Broncos, who added another goal by Sofia Gomez-Garcia in the 89th minute. Dekota Schubert assisted on both goals.
Both teams advance to the NAIA National Women's Soccer National Championship Opening Round (on November 17-19), Jamestown as the regular season champions and Hastings as tournament champions.
The NAIA Selection show will be held Monday November 14 at 11 AM.
The NAIA Women's Soccer National Championship Final Site is in Orange Beach, Alabama, November 29 – December 5, 2022, at the Orange Beach Sportsplex.
