Morningside Wins 2024 GPAC Women's Golf Championship
(Spencer, Iowa) – Morningside shot a final round team score of 326 and a 54-hole total of 972 (+108) to claim the 2024 Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Women’s Golf Championship. In the team competition, Briar Cliff was second (1002) and Dakota Wesleyan was third (1018). Doane was fourth and Mount Marty fifth.
Sofia Castelan from Morningside won her third straight individual title with a final round score of 76. Castelan shot +12 for the tournament (75, 77, 76 = 228). Kaitlyn Dumler from Doane was second individually at +20 with a 54-hole total of 236. Lucy Brown from Morningside was third at 240 (+24). Helene Getz Bergmo from Briar Cliff and Emily Hulshof from Northwestern were fourth and fifth respectively.
The Morningside women will represent the GPAC at the 2024 NAIA Women's Golf National Championships in Silvis, Illinois, May 14-17 at TPC Deere Run.
The top-10 from the GPAC Championships are automatically GPAC First Team All-Conference. The second team, honorable mentions, and coach of the year will be voted on by the coaches in the next week.
