Briar Cliff Claims 2023 GPAC Women's Golf Championship

(Spencer, Iowa) – The 2023 Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Women's Golf Championships concluded on Tuesday, May 2, in Spencer, Iowa, at The Spencer Golf and Country Club.

Briar Cliff shot a 54-hole total of 1042 (+178) and claimed the conference title.  The Chargers shot a final round of 344 on Tuesday.  Dakota Wesleyan was second with 1053 (+189), while Mount Marty was third with 1070 (+206). 

The individual medalist was Sofia Castelan from Morningside with a 54 hole total of 244 (+28).  Castelan is the back to back medalist after winning the 2022 event.  She will represent the GPAC individually at the NAIA National Championship.

The Briar Cliff team receives an automatic berth in the NAIA Women's National Golf Championship in Silvis, Illinois, at TPC Deere Run.  The NAIA National Women's Golf Championships are set for May 23-26, 2023. 

GPAC WOMEN'S GOLF - FINAL RESULTS

The top-ten finishers from the GPAC Championship are considered the All-Tournament Team.  All-Conference honorees, based on criteria, will be selected by the coaches next week.  Ben Irlbeck from Briar Cliff was named the GPAC Women's Golf Coach-of-the-Year.
