Morningside Claims 2022 GPAC Women's Golf Championship
(Norfolk, Neb.) – The fourth and final round of the 2021-22 Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Women's Golf Championship was played on Tuesday, April 26, in Norfolk, Nebraska, at The Norfolk Country Club. The Morningside Mustangs went wire to wire as the leaders and claimed the 2022 GPAC Women's Golf Championship.
The Mustangs posted a four-round total of 1277 and went +125 for the tournament as a team to win the title. Dakota Wesleyan finished second with 1361, while Briar Cliff was third with 1362. Mount Marty was fourth and Concordia fifth in the team standings.
Sofia Castelan from Morningside is the 2022 individual medalist after a four round total 307 (+19). Castelan shot a final round of 79 on Tuesday. Laia Badosa from Morningside was second with 315, while Kendra Placke from Concordia was third with 317. Megan Hinker from Dakota Wesleyan (319) and Maria Zorilla from Morningside (325) rounded out the top five for the individuals.
Briar Cliff shot a team round of 323 on Tuesday, while Helena Bergmo from BCU shot the low round with a 76.
Morningside will represent the GPAC at the 2022 NAIA Women's National Golf Championship in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, May 24-27 at the Lincoln Park West Golf Course.
The top-10 (including ties) are automatically considered GPAC All-Conference, with additional at-large members to be voted on by the coaches.
