Day One Complete in 2024 GPAC Softball Tournnament

(Sioux City, Iowa) – Day one of the 2024 Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Postseason Softball Tournament was completed on Wednesday, May 1, in Sioux Center, Iowa.  Both brackets/pods were played inside the American State Bank Sports Complex.

In the Northwestern pod, the top seeded Red Raiders went 2-0 on day one, while #5 seed Morningside and #8 seed Mount Marty each went 1-1.  Fourth seed Concordia was eliminated at 0-2 from the bracket. 

In the Midland pod, the two seed Warriors went 2-0 on day one, while #3 seed Dordt and #6 seed Jamestown each went 1-1.  Seventh seed Doane was eliminated at 0-2 from the bracket.

Play resumes at 10am on Thursday with an elimination game in each pod.  In the Northwestern bracket Morningside and Mount Marty will play, with the winner facing Northwestern.  In the Midland bracket Dordt and Jamestown will play, with the winner playing Midland.  Games six and seven (if needed) will be played at 12:15pm and 2:30pm.

Northwestern has secured the league's first berth to the NAIA Opening Round, while the GPAC Tournament Champion will receive the second berth.  If the Red Raiders win the GPAC Tournament, then the tournament runner-up will receive the second GPAC berth to the NAIA Opening Round.  The two brackets will be double elimination, with the final the best two out of three.  GPAC tie-breakers were used in the seeding process.

Saturday's GPAC Championship Series location is to be determined if it will be played outdoors.  If it is played outdoors, it will go to the highest seed remaining of the bracket winners.
