Women's Tennis – Maria Purizaca, Doane University
Maria Purizaca of Doane University is this week's GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Women's Tennis Player of the Week. Purizaca, sophomore from Lima, Peru, went 3-0 in singles and 3-0 in doubles on the week. Purizaca started the week with a win over ITA No. 30 Sofia Canto (Bethel, Tenn.) in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4. She followed with two wins over Karolina Mrowiecova (Mobile). Canto and Mrowiecova were both NAIA Second Team All-Americans in 2024. In doubles play, she teamed with Mariana Espinosa to win their three doubles matches. Purizaca is unranked in the ITA singles rankings and is ranked 50th with Espinosa in doubles.
Men's Tennis – Nick Smeltzer, Hastings College
Nick Smeltzer of Hastings College is this week's GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Men's Tennis Player of the Week. Smeltzer, a senior from Austin, Texas, won both singles and doubles matches with ease, competing at No.2 singles and No. 2 Doubles. He helped the Broncos to a pair of wins on the week.
