Northwestern Wins the 2023 GPAC Men's Soccer Tournament
(Sioux City, Iowa) – Northwestern is the 2023 Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Postseason Men’s Soccer Tournament Champion after posting a 2-1 win over Morningside on Thursday night in Orange City, Iowa.
The second seeded Red Raiders took a 1-0 lead into halftime with a goal with three seconds on the first half clock by Gerrard Uamai. In the final 45 minutes Northwestern extended the lead to 2-0 over the Mustangs with a goal by Stan van den Beld with 15:31 left in the game. Morningside cut that lead in half just moments later with a goal with 13:16 left by Carlo Schmidt. That goal would end the scoring for the match as Northwestern went on for the 2-1 win in full time.
Northwestern has secured the GPAC's second automatic berth to the NAIA National Men's Soccer National Championship Opening Round November 16-18. Briar Cliff, as regular season champion, secured the first automatic bid for the GPAC.
The NAIA Selection Show for Men's Soccer is next Monday, November 13.
The NAIA Men's Soccer National Championship Final Site is in Wichita, Kansas, November 27 – December 4, 2023, at the Styker Soccer Complex.
