Week 2: GPAC Golf Players of the Week
(Sioux City, Iowa) – The Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) and Hauff Mid-America Sports are proud to announce the following golfers-of-the-week for September 11-17, 2023. Hauff Mid-America Sports is the presenting sponsor of the 2023-2024 GPAC Players-of-the-Week and Players and Coaches-of-the-Year awards program.
Hauff Mid-America Sports/GPAC Golfers-of-the-Week
Women – Sofia Castelan, Morningside University
Sofia Castelan of Morningside University is the GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Women's Golfer-of-the-Week. Casetlan, a senior from Quertaro, Mexico, tied for the top spot at the Lila Frommelt Invite. She ultimately fell in a playoff to Iowa Western's Baylie Pyke, but her score of 152 (77-75) helped the Mustangs to the team title despite trailing by nine strokes entering day two of the event.
Men – Gabe Escalera, Hastings College
Gabe Escalera of Hastings College is the GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Men's Golfer-of-the-Week. Escalera, a sophomore from Sahaurita, Arizona, put his name in the Hastings College record books as he won his third straight event. He won the Siouxland Invitational by three strokes with a six under score of 207 including a 66 that tied the school record of 66 and propelled him from three shots back going into the final round. No Bronco has won three straight competitions dating back to the emergence of the Great Plains Athletic Conference in 2000.
