Doane Claims the 2023 GPAC Men's Golf Championship
(Vermillion, South Dakota) – The 2023 Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Men's Golf Championships concluded on Tuesday, April 25, in Vermillion, South Dakota, at The Bluffs.
Doane shot a 54 hole total of 868 (+4) and claimed their first conference title in 47 years. The Tigers shot a final round of 287 on Tuesday. Northwestern was second with 875 (+11), while Midland was third with 881 (+17). This is the first time Doane has qualied for the NAIA National Championships.
The individual medalist was Freddy Bullock from Dordt. Bullock won a one hole playoff over Blake Andersen from Doane and Jack Laven from Northwestern. All three golfers shot 54 hole totals of 214 (-2). Bullock won the first hole of the playoff (18) with a birdie. He becomes the first Defender to advance to the NAIA National Golf Championships as an individual.
The Doane team receives an automatic berth in the NAIA Men's National Golf Championship in Mesa, Arizona, at the Las Sendas Golf Club. The NAIA National Men's Golf Championships are set for May 16-19, 2023.
GPAC MEN'S GOLF – FINAL LEADERBOARD
The top-ten finishers from the GPAC Championship are considered the All-Tournament Team. All-Conference honorees, based on criteria, will be selected by the coaches next week.. Myron Parsley from Doane was named the GPAC Men's Golf Coach-of-the-Year.
The 2023 GPAC Women's Golf Championship is next Monday and Tuesday (May 1 and 2) in Spencer, Iowa, at the Spencer Country Club.
