Week 11: GPAC Football Players of the Week
(Sioux City, Iowa) – The Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) and Hauff Mid-America Sports are proud to announce the following football players-of-the-week for games played the week of November 6-12, 2023. Hauff Mid-America Sports is the presenting sponsor of the 2023-24 GPAC Players-of-the-Week and Players and Coaches-of-the-Year awards program.
Hauff Mid-America Sports/ Football Players-of-the-Week
Offense – Michael Storey, Wide Receiver (Northwestern College)
Northwestern Wide Receiver Michael Storey is this week's GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Offensive Player-of-the-Week. Storey, a senior from Spencer, Iowa, had a career-day in his final regular season game as a Red Raider. He set a new career-high with 181 receiving yards, topping his previous best of 159 yards against Concordia early this season. He achieved the yardage in just 11 catches (16.5 yards/catch) and brought down two touchdown receptions. Additionally, he tied the Red Raiders program record for career receptions at 282.
Defense – Ty Martinsen, Linebacker (Doane University)
Linebacker Ty Martinsen of Doane University is this week's GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Defensive Player-of-the-Week. Martinsen, a senior, from Cedar Rapids, Nebraska, forced three Bronco turnovers in the game including two inside the red zone. With Doane leading 3-0 in the first quarter, he forced a fumble at the 12-yard line to prevent a Bronco score. He added a strip-sack in the second quarter to stop another drive that had advanced into Doane territory. On the final Hastings play of the game, Martinsen stopped the Broncos short of the end zone by intercepting the pass attempt at the 18-yard line with 23 seconds left in the game for his first career interception. In the final game of his career, he posted 14 tackles (10 solo), with two forced fumbles, an interception, 2.5 tackles for loss, and a sack.
Special Teams – Austin Jablonski, Returner (Concordia University)
Austin Jablonski of Concordia University is this week's GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Special Teams Player-of-the-Week. Jablonski, a junior from Lincoln, Nebraska, returned a kickoff 88 yards (tackled at the 8) as part of Concordia's 45-21 win at Mount Marty. Jablonski had two kickoff returns for 114 yards. He also caught six passes for 101 yards and a touchdown.
