Week 8: Football Players-of-the-Week
(Sioux City, Iowa) – The Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) and Hauff Mid-America Sports are proud to announce the following football players-of-the-week for games played the week of October 17-23, 2022. Hauff Mid-America Sports is the presenting sponsor of the 2022-23 GPAC Players-of-the-Week and Players and Coaches-of-the-Year awards program.
Hauff Mid-America Sports/ Football Players-of-the-Week
Offense – DJ McGarvie, Quarterback (Concordia University)
Concordia quarterback DJ McGarvie is this week's GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Offensive Player-of-the-Week. McGarvie, a sophomore from Lincoln, Nebraska, broke the Concordia school record for passing yards in a single game with 458 versus in a 29-28 loss to Dordt. McGarvie completed 34-of-67 passes for 458 yards and four touchdowns. He completed four or more passes to six different receivers on the afternoon. The Bulldogs travel to 17th-ranked Midland University on October 29. Kick off will be at 1 pm.
Defense – Dijion Walls, Defensive Back (Morningside University)
Defensive back Dijion Walls of Morningside University is this week's GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Defensive Player-of-the-Week. Walls, a junior, from Hazelwood, Missouri, had two interceptions in the win over Mount Marty, picking off the Lancers in the opening drive of the game and later snagging an interception and taking it in 28 yards for a score. Walls also had four tackles in the contest. The Mustangs host Dakota Wesleyanb University on October 29. Kick off will be at 1 pm.
Special Teams – Antoine Murphy, Returner/Running Back (Hastings College)
Antoine Murphy of Hastings College is this week's GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Special Teams Player-of-the-Week. Murphy, a freshman, from Dallas, Texas, had his biggest play yet as a Bronco in a win over Jamestown. After the Jimmies got to within seven points with a field goal to start the fourth quarter, he returned the ensuing kickoff 86 yards to the house for his first career kickoff return for a touchdown and the 23-9 lead. This proved to be the game winning score as Hastings won the game 23-16. The Broncos have the week off before traveling to take on Dordt on November 5. Kick off will be at 1 pm.
