Week 7: Football Players-of-the-Week
(Sioux City, Iowa) – The Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) and Hauff Mid-America Sports are proud to announce the following football players-of-the-week for games played the week of October 10-16, 2022. Hauff Mid-America Sports is the presenting sponsor of the 2022-23 GPAC Players-of-the-Week and Players and Coaches-of-the-Year awards program.
Hauff Mid-America Sports/ Football Players-of-the-Week
Offense – Zach Norton, Wide Receiver (Morningside University)
Morningside wide receiver Zach Norton is this week's GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Offensive Player-of-the-Week. Norton, a junior from Sioux Falls, South Dakota, accounted for 196 yards in the Mustangs 59-7 win over Jamestown. He made 11 catches, including two for touchdowns and averaged 17.8 yards per catch. The top-ranked Mustangs will travel to Yankton, South Dakota to take on Mount Marty on October 22nd. Kick off will be at 1 pm.
Defense – Adam DeJong, Defensive Back (Dakota Wesleyan University)
Defensive back Adam DeJong of Dakota Wesleyan University is this week's GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Defensive Player-of-the-Week. DeJong, a junior, from Watertown, South Dakota, had three interceptions in the Tigers 31-24 win over Briar Cliff, tying a school record for interceptions in a game. He returned two of the three interceptions for touchdowns, accounting for 12 of the 31 points by himself in the victory. The Tigers host 17th-ranked Midland University on October 22nd. Kick off will be at 1 pm.
Special Teams – Kelen Meyer, Punter/Kicker (Doane University)
Kelen Meyer of Doane University is this week's GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Special Teams Player-of-the-Week. Meyer, a freshman, from Ord, Nebraska, broke the Doane University record with an 86-yard punt at Hastings. His punt carried 74 yards in the air (from the spot the punt was kicked) and rolled to a stop at the 3-yard line. He averaged 50.6 yards per punt. He was 1-of-2 on field goal attempts, converting from 29 yards and missing wide from 42. The Tigers will host fourth-ranked Northwestern College on October 22. Kick off will be at 1 pm.
