Week 6: Football Players-of-the-Week
(Sioux City, Iowa) – The Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) and Hauff Mid-America Sports are proud to announce the following football players-of-the-week for games played the week of October 3-9, 2022. Hauff Mid-America Sports is the presenting sponsor of the 2022-23 GPAC Players-of-the-Week and Players and Coaches-of-the-Year awards program.
Hauff Mid-America Sports/ Football Players-of-the-Week
Offense – Joe Dolincheck, Quarterback (Morningside University)
Morningside quarterback Joe Dolincheck is this week's GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Offensive Player-of-the-Week. Dolincheck, a senior from Bellevue, Nebraska, added his name in the Morningside record books again on Saturday, recording eight passing touchdowns in the first half of a 70-17 blowout against Hastings. The record-setting total for single game touchdown passes replaces Ian Gilworth's seven TD's in a game, nearly 14 years ago to the date. The top-ranked Mustangs will travel to Jamestown, North Dakota to take on the Jimmies, on October 5th. Kick off will be at 1 pm.
Defense – Devon Polley, Defensive Line (Concordia University)
Defensive lineman Devon Polley of Concordia University is this week's GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Defensive Player-of-the-Week. Polley, a sophomore, from Edmond, Oklahoma, made 2.5 sacks for a Concordia defense that held Jamestown to 71 rushing yards in the 30-15 win for the Bulldogs. Polley and his teammates stopped the Jimmies on each of their four fourth down tries, including one on fourth and goal from the one. The Bulldogs host Mount Marty University on October 15th. Kick off will be at 1 pm.
Special Teams – Jeremiah Payne, Wide Receiver/Returner (Doane University)
Jeremiah Payne of Doane University is this week's GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Special Teams Player-of-the-Week. Payne, a junior, from Dallas, Texas, had the game-changing play of game. Following a Dakota Wesleyan field goal to take a 13-3 lead late in the third quarter, Payne returned the ensuing kickoff 91 yards for a touchdown. Doane would eventually come from behind for the win. His return is the 8th-longest kickoff return in school history. He added three receptions on the day and finished with 129 yards on kickoff returns. The Tigers travel to take on Hastings College in Hastings, Nebraska, on October 15th. Kick off will be at 1 pm.
