Week 3: Football Players-of-the-Week
(Sioux City, Iowa) – The Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) and Hauff Mid-America Sports are proud to announce the following football players-of-the-week for games played the week of September 12-18, 2022. Hauff Mid-America Sports is the presenting sponsor of the 2022-23 GPAC Players-of-the-Week and Players and Coaches-of-the-Year awards program.
Hauff Mid-America Sports/ Football Players-of-the-Week
Offense – Blake Fryar, Quarterback (Northwestern College)
Northwestern quarterback Blake Fryar is this week's GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Offensive Player-of-the-Week. Fryar, a senior from Waukee, Iowa, set a new career-high with five passing touchdowns in the 48-3 win at Jamestown on Saturday. He completed 76.7% of his passes (23-for-30) for 213 yards. His quarterback rating was just a under 200 for the game (191.3). He has now thrown 10 touchdown passes and has not been intercepted on the season. The fourth-ranked Raiders will host Concordia in Orange City, Iowa, on September 24. Kick off will be at 1 pm.
Defense – Dijion Walls, Defensive Back (Morningside University)
Defensive back Dijion Walls of Morningside University is this week's GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Defensive Player-of-the-Week. Walls, a junior, from Hazelwood, Missouri, had a game-high nine solo tackles in Morningside's 59-23 win over Briar Cliff. He also had four pass breakups and an interception, which he returned 27 yards for a touchdown. The top-ranked Mustangs have a bye week and will be back in action on October 1st when they travel to 23rd ranked Midland. Kick off will be at 1 pm.
Special Teams – Jonathan Branner, Kicker (Briar Cliff University)
Jonathan Branner of Briar Cliff University is this week's GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Special Teams Player-of-the-Week. Branner, a sophomore, from Munich, Germany, accounted for nearly half of the Chargers points in their game with top-ranked Morningside. He connected on all three of his field goal attempts including a long of 40-yards. He also made both PAT attempts on the afternoon. The Chargers host Mount Marty University in Sioux City, Iowa, on September 24. Kick off will be at 1 pm.
