Bracket Championships set in GPAC Baseball Tournament

(Sioux City, Iowa) – The bracket championship games are set in the 2024 Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Postseason Baseball Tournaments.  Top seed, and regular season co-champion, Concordia and second seed, and co-champion, Doane and will take on Midland and Jamestown respectively in each bracket.

After needing extra innings to get by eight seed Mount Marty the night before, Concordia moved onto the bracket championship with an 8-3 win over fifth seed Midland. Mount Marty did bounce back after the loss to the Bulldogs, picking up an 9-8 victory over Briar Cliff in the first elimination game of the day, before falling to Midland the final elimination game of the day by a tally of 10-4. The Bulldogs will take on Midland at Noon on Saturday.  

In Crete, Nebraska, in the Doane bracket, the host Tigers jumped out to an early lead over Northwestern in the first game of the day and held on for a 5-4 win to move on to the bracket title contest.  Jamestown picked up 4-3 win over Morningside in the first elimination game, scoring the winning run in the bottom of the ninth after a pair of singles and two hit batters. The Jimmies then defeated Northwestern in the final elimination game of the day by a score of 3-1 to move on to face Doane on Saturday at Noon.

The Concordia and Doane bracket winners will meet on Tuesday, May 7, in the GPAC Baseball Tournament Championship Game, a winner take all contest (9 innings) regardless of prior records in bracket play.

Concordia has secured the league's first berth to the NAIA Opening Round, while the GPAC Tournament Champion will receive the second berth.  If Concordia wins the GPAC Tournament, then Doane (as co-champion) will receive the second GPAC berth to the NAIA Opening Round.
