Day 1 Complete in 2024 GPAC Baseball Tournament

(Sioux City, Iowa) – Day one action is complete in the two brackets for the 2024 Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Postseason Baseball Tournaments.  Top seed, and regular season co-champion, Concordia is one bracket host, while second seed, and co-champion, Doane is the other bracket host.

In Seward, Nebraska, the five seed Midland Warriors picked up a 12-10 win over four seed Briar Cliff. The Bulldogs needed extra innings to fend off eight seed Mount Marty by a score of 10-9.

In Crete, Nebraska, both games were tightly contested as the host Doane Tigers picked up a 2-1 win over Jamestown, the seven seed. Northwestern, the six seed, won the other day-one game over three seed Morningside also by a score of 2-1.

Games will continue Friday, May 3, with bracket championship games on Saturday, May 4.  The Concordia and Doane bracket winners will meet on Tuesday, May 7, in the GPAC Baseball Tournament Championship Game.

Concordia has secured the league's first berth to the NAIA Opening Round, while the GPAC Tournament Champion will receive the second berth.  If Concordia wins the GPAC Tournament, then Doane (as co-champion) will receive the second GPAC berth to the NAIA Opening Round. 

All games in the GPAC Tournament are nine innings (with no 10-run rule) and the two brackets will be double elimination.  The overall GPAC Baseball Championship Game is a winner take all contest (9 innings) regardless of prior records in bracket play.  GPAC tie-breakers were used in the seeding process.
