Northwestern Wins 2023 GPAC Football Championship
(Sioux City, Iowa) - The Northwestern College football team has claimed the 2023 Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Football Championship.
The top ranked Red Raiders improved to 11-0 overall and went undefeated (10-0) in league play with a 40-11 win over Jamestown on Saturday at home in Orange City, Iowa. This is Northwestern's first outright GPAC Football Championship. Northwestern shared the league title in 2000 and 2014. The last outright Northwestern confererence title came in the Nebraska-Iowa Athletic Conference (NIAC) in 1996.
The number one ranked, and defending NAIA National Champions, will enter the NAIA Football Championship Series (FCS) as the top seeded team. Northwestern will not play on November 18, and will begin FCS play on November 25. The Red Raiders are guarenteed home field throughout the entire FCS.
Northwestern quarterback Jalyn Gramstad went 17-31 through the air for 258 yards and four touchdowns in the win on Saturday. Michael Storey had 181 yards receiving and two scores, while Logan Meyer rushed for 84 yards and one score. Three Red Raider defenders had five tackles each (Parker Hager, Daniel Erlandson, and Paul Vandal). Parker Chaffee added an interception in the game.
The NAIA Football Championship Series field of 20 teams will be annouced on Sunday, November 12. The Selection Show will air at 6pm (central) on the NAIA You Tube Channel.
