Week 10 : GPAC Football Players of the Week
(Sioux City, Iowa) – The Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) and Hauff Mid-America Sports are proud to announce the following football players-of-the-week for games played the week of October 30-November 5, 2023. Hauff Mid-America Sports is the presenting sponsor of the 2023-24 GPAC Players-of-the-Week and Players and Coaches-of-the-Year awards program.
Hauff Mid-America Sports/ Football Players-of-the-Week
Offense – DJ McGarvie, Quarterback (Concordia University)
Concordia quarterback DJ McGarvie is this week's GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Offensive Player-of-the-Week. McGarvie, a junior from Valparaiso, Nebraska, threw for 364 yards and totaled five touchdowns (four passing and one rushing) as Concordia routed rival Doane, 55-26, on senior day. As part of the performance, McGarvie became Concordia's new career record holder for passing touchdowns (52) and passing yards (6,514). McGarvie ranks first in the GPAC and sixth nationally in passing yards per game (275.2) on the season.
Defense – Fareed Soluade, Linebacker (Hastings College)
Linebacker Fareed Soluade of Hastings College is this week's GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Defensive Player-of-the-Week. Soluade, a senior, from Houston, Texas, had a career-high 10 total tackles in a win over Midland. More impressive yet was his first career fumble recovery that he returned for a touchdown. His 74-yard fumble return for a touchdown early in the fourth quarter proved to be the game winning score in Hastings first win over the Warriors since 2015. It was the longest fumble return for a touchdown in school history.
Special Teams – Eli Stader, Kicker (Northwestern College)
Eli Stader of Northwestern College is this week's GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Special Teams Player-of-the-Week. Stader, a junior from Cedar Grove, Wisconsin, was a perfect 7-for-7 on PAT attempts for the Red Raiders. On the season he has missed just twice in 51 attempts and has accounted for 76 points.
