Week 8 : GPAC Football Players of the Week
(Sioux City, Iowa) – The Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) and Hauff Mid-America Sports are proud to announce the following football players-of-the-week for games played the week of October 16-22, 2023. Hauff Mid-America Sports is the presenting sponsor of the 2023-24 GPAC Players-of-the-Week and Players and Coaches-of-the-Year awards program.
Hauff Mid-America Sports/ Football Players-of-the-Week
Offense – Tyson Denkert, Running Back (Midland University)
Midland University running back Tyson Denkert is this week's GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Offensive Player-of-the-Week. Denkert, a sophomore from Kenesaw, Nebraska, ran for 231 yards and a pair of touchdowns as Midland defeated Doane 27-10 on homecoming/senior day. He added 11 yards receiving and 16 as a kick returner for 258 all-purpose yards. Denkert is just the second player from the GPAC to eclipse the 200-yard mark on the ground his season, joining Konner McQuillan of Northwestern who did it during the first week of the season.
Defense – Brayden Pommier-Williams, Linebacker (Briar Cliff University)
Linebacker Brayden Pommier-Williams of Briar Cliff University is this week's GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Defensive Player-of-the-Week. Pommier-Williams, a junior, from Omaha, Nebraska, played a critical part in the Chargers 21-17 win over Dakota Wesleyan. Trailing 7-10 in the fourth quarter, Pommier-Williams picked off a short pass by the Tigers QB and won a foot race for a 48-yard pick-six. He also totaled seven tackles in the game.
Special Teams – Casper Feijen, Kicker (Hastings College)
Casper Feijen of Hastings College is this week's GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Special Teams Player-of-the-Week. Feijen, a junior from Amsterdam, Holland, came up big in a 45-42 win over Mount Marty. He went 2-for-2 on field goals, including a 35-yard field goal in the fourth quarter that proved to be the game winner. He was also a perfect 6-for-6 on extra points.
